Interview Coaching
Prepare for the interview with someone who has sat on the other side of the table for 25+ years. Kara Panebianco is an IAP Certified Career Coach in Annapolis, MD. Sessions are held over Zoom, which is where most first-round interviews happen now anyway.
After 25+ years of recruiting, I can tell you that the person who gets the offer is rarely the most qualified person in the room. It is the person who communicated most clearly what they bring and why they want this role. Strong candidates lose interviews by rambling, by answering the question they wish they had been asked, and by improvising under pressure instead of preparing.
Interview coaching fixes that. We build the handful of stories you will draw on again and again, tighten your answers until they sound like you at your best, and rehearse until the nerves have nowhere to hide.
A few questions carry most of the weight. “Tell me about yourself” sets the frame for everything after it, and the present-past-future structure in this post keeps it to ninety seconds. “What is your greatest weakness?” is a self-awareness test, not a trap, and here is how to answer it with sample answers. Add “why this role,” “tell me about a time you failed,” and “why are you leaving,” and you have covered most of what a first round will ask.
In a session we go through the questions most likely for your specific role, draft your answers together, and then I ask them the way an interviewer would, follow-ups included.
Rehearsing silently is not the same as saying it. Most people discover in a mock interview that the answer they thought was ready comes out twice as long and half as clear. Saying it out loud, getting honest feedback, and saying it again is what makes it natural on the day. No judgment, just honest feedback until you sound like yourself, prepared.
The interview is not over when they say yes. Most people leave money and flexibility on the table because the negotiation feels awkward or risky. We decide in advance what you will ask for, how you will say it, and how to keep the conversation collaborative. How to Negotiate a Job Offer Without the Dread lays out the approach. And once you accept, the first 90 days are where you turn a good hire into a great one.
Tailored to your role and where you are in the process.
